Abstract: Plant-derived nanoparticles (PDNPs) are attracting intense attention due to their excellent advantages, such as low cost, stable supply, reduced risk of pathogens, digestive resistance and high permeability, which cannot be achieved by animal cell-derived exosomes. Therefore, their application in medicine, food, cosmetics, etc. is being actively researched. However, most current research on plant-derived nanoparticles has been conducted using extracts from crushed tissues, which contain a large amount of unwanted impurities. Therefore, costly and time-consuming processes such as ultracentrifugation are often required to obtain PDNPs with product-level purity for practical applications. Our research focuses on the extraction of PDNPs from waste flower petals, a sustainable biomass source. Using the conventional size exclusion chromatogram techniques, we succeeded to isolate 100-200 nm PDNPs from rose flower apoplast fluids. The resulting PDNPs are composed mainly of glycerides, ceramides, and phospholipids and exhibit potent antioxidant activity.
